The BSc in Management for Fashion and Creative Industries is a 3-year program taught in English which aims to train the future generation of creative managers, with a solid background in management and humanities and a keen understanding of the languages of creation.

You will be prepared for careers in a sector in which creation has a central role. Fashion, luxury, beauty, perfumes, jewelry, sport, entertainment... all these industries place creation, art and aesthetic at the heart of their productions. Often embodied by a creative director or a brand, the creative industries are also distinguished by their ability to capture the "zeitgeist" and to be in a state of constant innovation.

The program benefits from the unparalleled links that Institut Français de la Mode has forged over many years with fashion houses and companies in the fashion and creative industries (Chanel, Dior, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chloé, Adidas, L'Oréal, etc.), as well as the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, which organises Paris Fashion Week.

The course pedagogy is a mix of theory and practice: you will have access to a diversity of teaching formats, projects, cases, and practical workshops to develop your agility, nourish a 360° approach and feed your curiosity..

Le Grand Bain

On your arrival, you will participate in, together with BA Fashion Design students, an intensive two-week program of creative industry immersion through workshops, visits and meetings. This immersive program will give you an insight into the fundamentals of Paris as a "creative capital": this cultural exploration will help you to identify key references drawn from history, architecture, literature, art, cinema... It will also allow you to identify the dynamics at the crossroads of creative activities and industries (fashion, luxury, design, gastronomy, media, contemporary art, video games...), while understanding the economic structures at work in a given territory: urbanization, the educational system and the role of politics.

Projects

Each semester, you will have the opportunity to work on one or more concrete projects under real-life conditions. Drawing on the cross-knowledge acquired in the management, humanities and creation courses, you will work in groups with other students in the program, but also, depending on the project, with students of IFM's BA in Fashion Design or students of other schools, such as Ensad and Camondo in applied arts, and Ecole W in journalism. These projects may also take place in partnership with brands, associations or media. They can be very short (hackathon type) or spread over several months, and will allow you to put your knowledge into play in a concrete and applied way.

A few examples of projects, among others:

  • Social networks: defining the strategy, implementation and animation for a brand (Tik Tok, Instagram...)
  • Entrepreneurial project: developing an innovative concept and building a business plan
  • Trends and data: deciphering zeitgeist using qualitative and quantitative methods (data analysis, etc.)
  • Magazine / Podcast / Media: working on the layout and content of a digital or paper media
  • Documentary: observing social phenomena and translating them into video format

Internships

The program allows you to complete up to 10 weeks of internships:

  • A compulsory 2- to 4-month internship or mission (humanitarian, entrepreneurial, etc) in Year 2
  • An optional 6-month internship at the end of Year 3

International experience

The programme is aimed at students from all over the world, allowing you to be in contact with very diverse cultures and personalities.

You will have the opportunity to gain international experience, either in the form of an internship or an assignment abroad, or by spending a semester on exchange in one of our partner universities or business schools.

Campus

Our Austerlitz campus is located at Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design on the bank of the famous Seine river with state-of-the-art equipment: workshops, a fully equipped Fab Lab, a knit workshop, a leather workshop, a photographic studio and a C.A.D laboratory.

Entirely dedicated to the fashion, design and creation sectors, our analog and digital Library has one of the most unique collections in Europe.

At the end of the Bachelor's degree, two options are open:

  • Continue your higher education studies in a Master's degree in France or abroad, for example in marketing management, communications, digital marketing, sustainability management, sales management, entrepreneurship & innovation, or by applying to IFM's MSc in International Fashion and Luxury Management.
  • Start your professional career directly in the creative industries in junior management positions in fields related to products (product management, merchandising...), distribution (retail, ecommerce...) or communications.

Whatever your project, you will receive support from the IFM Careers Department.

The Careers Department plays a central role as a link between students, alumni and companies by organizing contacts and meetings between recruiters and students. A dedicated team accompanies you during your studies at the Institut Français de la Mode as well as throughout your professional career. It helps you develop your professional project, identify internship and employment opportunities and develop your network.

As alumni, you will benefit from the strength of our network of companies and alumni, both in France and abroad. A personalized career follow-up is offered to you at all time during your professional career, and regular events are organized by our Alumni Association.

For students starting in September 2022, the following tuition fees apply:

  • €11,990 per year for students from the European Union
  • €17,750 per year for non-EU students.

There is also a lifetime contribution to Institut Français de la Mode's Alumni Association: €350.

Thanks to the sponsorship of company members of Institut Français de la Mode's Foundation, need-based scholarships are available for EU citizens under 27 years of age on September 1st 2021.

Admissions requirements

The BSc in Management for Fashion and creative industries is open to students who hold a high school Baccalaureate or equivalent (A-level, Abitur, etc). All specializations are welcome. Fluent English is required.

Admissions process

The admissions process consists of two steps:

  1. Submission of a detailed online application file. Please note there is a non-refundable €50 application fee.
  2. For selected candidates, an interview with members of the program faculty.

Applications via Parcoursup

If you are preparing for or hold a French baccalauréat and wish to apply for the first year of the BSc, you must apply through the Parcoursup platform and not directly on our website.

International applications

If you are preparing or hold an international diploma equivalent to the French baccalaureate (A-Level, IB, Abitur, International Baccalaureate...), you should apply on the IFM website by clicking on "Apply".

Admissions process

The application file will include documents related to your background and education (CV, transcripts, predicted grades if applicable), questions to assess your project and your motivation. You will find below the list of documents that you will be asked to scan and upload in PDF format onto the application platform.

  • academic transcripts from the last three years of secondary school (and all post-secondary school transcripts if applicable)
  • Copy of High school diploma or Secondary School examination certificates (if completed).
  • English language score record for candidates from non-anglophone countries

Application

How many places are available on the BSc?

We will be making 80 places available as of September 2022.

Does the Bachelor programme only accept students from certain academic backgrounds?

We accept candidates from all academic backgrounds as long as they hold a high school diploma and meet the entry requirements detailed online.

Do international candidates need to include a cover letter in their application?

No, international candidates do not need to include a cover letter. You can develop your reasons for studying this programme and your motivation in answer to the questions asked in the application form.

Do you request an English language certificate?

Yes, we require an English language certificate. We accept IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge tests. If your application is found eligible, you will be invited to an interview before a board of examiners who will test your level of English orally.

Scores required:

  • for applications to the English Track: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79-95, Cambridge 176
  • for applications to the FrenchTrack: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 65-78, Cambridge 162

Will the interview be held in English or French?

If the candidate has chosen the French section for their 1st year, the interview will be held primarily in French. We will however include questions in English in order to fully understand the candidate’s language level. For candidates who choose to pursue the English section as of the 1st year, the entirety of the interview will be held in English. The 2nd and 3rd year of the programme is run entirely in English.

Can you explain the interview format?

The interview begins with a creative exercise of 30 minutes intended to examine the candidate’s analytical skills through the analysis of an image. The jury interview begins with the presentation of this image analysis to the jury, followed by questions from the jury. The jury interview lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.

Do you accept parallel admissions?

As the Bachelor is a new program launched in September 2021, we will only be welcoming first year or second year students next September. As a result, we will not accept students on the bridge to the third year before September 2023. Requests to join the second year directly will be examined on a case by case basis.

Do candidates need to be able to speak French?

No, it is not necessary to be able to speak French as the programme is taught in English. However, we will be providing French language classes for those who cannot speak French so that they are able to fully experience life in France and prepare for a professional career in France if they so choose.

What grades are required to apply for the Bachelor programme?

All candidates holding a high school diploma are eligible. Each application is carefully read by a commission that gathers Institut Français de la Mode professors and members of the programme management. We select our future students by carefully looking at their academic transcripts from the last three years of secondary school and baccalaureate (or equivalent) transcripts, but we intentionally have not set specific requirements in terms of grade levels. Our approach is to take each aspect of the application into account: grades, personality, extra-curricular experience, sensitivity to the creative industries, motivation for the programme.

Program

Can you confirm how the current health situation will affect the teaching of the Bachelor programme?

The Bachelor is designed as a classroom taught programme with some e-learning courses, but depending on the public health context, the programme is designed to able to be taught online with the exception of any practical courses. As with all Higher Education Institutions, we are subject to government guidelines concerning the public health context.

Can I take a postgraduate programme at the Institut Français de la Mode after obtaining the Bachelor?

Graduates of the Bachelor in Management will be able to apply for the MSc in International Fashion & Luxury Management at the Institut Français de la Mode. They will nevertheless have to follow the same two-step selection process as all other candidates.

Is the diploma recognized by the state?

The Bachelor programme is a new programme. In France, new academic degrees cannot be certified until their fourth year of existence. Nevertheless, this Bachelor benefits from the recognition of the Institut Français de la Mode both at the academic level and at the corporate level, in particular through the Institut Français de la Mode Foundation.

The Institut Français de la Mode is a higher education establishment recognised by the French State, our postgraduate programmes are endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education which also issues the EESPIG label (Private Higher Education Establishment).

The Institut Français de la Mode is also a member of HESAM University, the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles (CGE) and the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI).

This Bachelor awards 180 ECTS credits (at the rate of 60 ECTS per year) which corresponds to the number of credits required to continue to Masters level.

Scholarship

Are scholarships available to fund the Bachelor programme?

Thanks to the sponsorship of members of the Institut Français de la Mode's Foundation, need-based scholarships are available for European Union citizens. The IFM Foundation scholarship is available for EU citizens under 27 years of age on 1st September 2021. You will need to fill in a scholarship application form when you complete your online application to the programme. You can dowload here the scholarship application in English.

Fees & Scholarship

Is there an increase in tuition fees for 3rd year students?

There will be no increase in tuition fees for students going on an exchange semester abroad in the 3rd year. On the other hand, all non-academic costs (costs of academic supplies and equipment, living, accommodation, travel costs) are to be paid by the student.
