Objectives
Where did the commercial fashion image come from and how did it become a driving force in shaping culture and commerce? This course is designed for those seeking to understand the history, influence, and power of fashion imagery - and how it shapes desire, identity, and cultural narratives. It explores its evolution and the unexpected role the stylist has in creating iconic fashion campaigns. This program will immerse students in the analysis, critique and understanding of the commercial fashion image. Their newfound insight will lead them to create their advertising image.
Program
- Understand the historical evolution of the commercial fashion image
- Learn how fashion imagery is shaped by socio-economic, political forces and current events
- Understand the power of an image, its semiotics, subconscious meaning, cultural messaging and social relevance
- Explore the stylist’s role in shaping narratives in fashion campaigns and editorials, and learn how the two are entwined
- Examine how an iconic luxury fashion house used its campaigns to drive a cultural shift and redefine the visual landscape
- Students will create their own original commercial fashion image using photography, collage, or mixed media
Tutor
Natalie Yuksel is a creative director, stylist, brand consultant, and costume designer with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Studies from the London College of Fashion (UAL). She began her career in Paris with Mixte
magazine and played a key role in launching Grazia France with Mondadori. Later, she served as Fashion Director of Libération Next. Transitioning from corporate publishing, Natalie founded her own creative consulting company, collaborating with luxury brands including Armani, LVMH, Chopard, Lancôme, Shiseido, and Vogue Thailand on campaigns, editorials, and visuals that shape culture and engage audiences. Her work also spans costume design for international film (e.g., Befikre), live brand presentations (e.g., Moncler’s first Instagram shopping event), and teaching at prestigious institutions including École Duperré and IFM, where she designs her own courses.
Certificate
At the end of the program, a certificate of participation in the Summer School is issued to participants who have attended all courses.
