First Master of Arts Graduate Show at Paris Fashion Week

For the first time, the students of Institut Français de la Mode were part of the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week® and opened the Fall/ Winter 2021/22 fashion week with their graduate show. For their graduation, each of the 48 students of the Master of Arts in Fashion Design present their personal collections, showcasing their creative vision.

The Master of Arts at IFM covers the current scope of creation in fashion: ready-to-wear, accessories and image design. It includes six majors or specialisations which will all be presented in a film produced with audiovisual communication agency Titre Provisoire: Womenswear, Menswear, Knitwear, Footwear, Leather Goods and Image. The fashion show was entirely filmed within the premises of Institut Français de la Mode and celebrates the inauguration of its new campus: a 9,000 m² space that will eventually accommodate 1,200 students. Designed around design studios, technical workshops and a fully equipped fablab to prototype all their work, this new campus is a place of creative experimentation and cultural exchange for students hailing from more than 50 different countries.

This first official graduate show confirms Institut Français de la Mode’s ambition to become a world leader in fashion education, bringing together management, craftsmanship and design. It also demonstrates the school’s ability to hone the creative talent of its students. Through a blend of creative workshops and technical learning provided by the faculty and a large variety of visiting lecturers -all fashion professionals-, the students develop a mastery that will enable them to excel in design studios or launch their own businesses.

The way these young creative talents, as future designers, look at fashion, makes this presentation an important part of this new Paris fashion week. At a time when creation is being shaken up all over the world, this graduate show comes as a breath of fresh air. The sound of creation can be clearly heard emanating from the Cité de la Mode et du Design.

"This presentation within the Paris Fashion Week is the first concrete expression of our project and our ambition. It will be an opportunity to appreciate the creative level of this first graduating class of our new Master’s programme, to identify emerging talent for tomorrow and to contribute to rethinking fashion in light of the current disruptions.", says Xavier Romatet, Dean of Institut Français de la Mode.

The Graduate Show of the Master of Arts in Fashion Design is supported by the DEFI, which Institut Français de la Mode would like to thank, as well as all the event's partners, including L'Oréal Real Campus, the Morgane Hilgers school of make-up, MAC and the manufacturers who contributed to the production of the pieces designed by the students.

"The DEFI has supported Institut Français de la Mode since its creation. We are pleased to stand by its side at this important and symbolic milestone in its path towards global leadership, not only in management but also in design", concludes Clarisse Reille, General Director of DEFI.
