Apply Master of Arts in Fashion Design

We thank you for your interest in our Master of Arts in Fashion Design. We would like to share with you the detailed steps you will have to follow to apply.

Required documents

  1. The application form duly completed.
  2. Two recommendation letters. You will have to download the required template and send it to two referees (a tutor, teacher, a professional you worked with). Your referees will have to send their reference by email from a nominative email address to: ma-fashion@ifmparis.fr, at the latest on the deadline of your application submission (ie first session: 25th of February, 2019). Your file may not be submitted without these two references. The subject of the message should be: REFERENCE “YOUR NAME” / “Your Major”. Example : REFERENCE JOHN DOE / Major in WOMENSWEAR
  3. Copies of each undergraduate/postgraduate diploma
  4. Copies of your grade transcripts translated in French or English (last year of undergraduate / postgraduate studies) (mandatory) and French Baccalauréat “relevé de notes” if applicable
  5. A passport photo in digital format
  6. A portfolio (please see requirements below)

Portfolio requirements

Thank you for strictly following the requirements below (size, content, format, etc..).

If you are applying for the Majors in Menswear / Womenswear / Knitwear

  • A PDF document of 12 pages (A4 format - 21 cm X 29,7 cm) illustrating your personal universe and skills, including at least sketches, illustrations, finished products, research
  • A link to your online portfolio / website (YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Behance, Issuu…) Unlike the pdf portfolio, which is a mandatory summary of your most representative work and requires a specific content and format, your digital portfolio is expected to display the full scope of your work, in the format of your choice.

If you are applying for the Major in Creative Pattern Making

  • A PDF document of 15 pages (A4 format - 21 cm X 29,7 cm) that illustrates your personal process for two different projects, 1 tailor and one flou. You must include your inspirational research, inspirations of fabrics, mock-up of finishes - details of the garment - volumes , and images of the final pieces.
  • A PDF document of 10 pages (A4 format - 21 cm X 29,7 cm) that illustrates your personal universe.
  • A link to your online portfolio / website (YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Behance, Issu…) Unlike the pdf portfolio, which is a mandatory summary of your most representative work and requires a specific content and format, your digital portfolio is expected to display the full scope of your work, in the format of your choice.

If you are applying for the Major in Leather Goods

  • A PDF document of 12 pages (A4 format - 21 cm X 29,7 cm) illustrating your personal universe and skills, including at least sketches, illustrations, finished products & research (research should include leather goods and bags even if you have not actually made any of these before)
  • A link to your online portfolio / website (YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Behance, Issu…) Unlike the pdf portfolio, which is a mandatory summary of your most representative work and requires a specific content and format, your digital portfolio is expected to display the full scope of your work, in the format of your choice.

If you are applying for the Major in Footwear

  • A PDF document of 12 pages (A4 format - 21 cm X 29,7 cm) illustrating your personal universe and skills, including at least sketches, illustrations, finished products & research (research should include footwear even if you have not actually made any shoes before).
  • A link to your online portfolio / website (YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Behance, Issu…) Unlike the pdf portfolio, which is a mandatory summary of your most representative work and requires a specific content and format, your digital portfolio is expected to display the full scope of your work, in the format of your choice.

If you are applying for the Major in Image

  • A link to your complete online portfolio, including at least one recent personal project, highlighting your research process, your appetite for fashion and your various skills. Your online portfolio should highlight your skills related to moving images (video, editing, motion design, etc.).
  • A PDF document of 12 pages (A4 format – 21 cm X 29,7 cm) summarizing your portfolio.

Next steps

Once the application website is open, you will be able to:

  1. Create your profile with login and password
  2. Fill out a personal information form online
  3. Download all the requested documents (knowing that the missing mandatory documents will block you in the process).
  4. Pay your application fees (50 €) by credit card on our Stripe secure payment platform.
  5. Submit your application (no later than February 25, 2019 for session 1).

The applications will then be submitted to a reading committee that will decide on your eligibility. You will be informed of the outcome of your application by March 12th 2019 for session 1.

If you are selected for the next step, you will be invited for an interview.

The candidates applying for the majors in Leather goods, Footwear and Image, will receive a jury assignment that will be due within two weeks (including two week-ends), and sent through the platform prior to their interview. For candidates of the Major in Creative Pattern Making, the assignment will be completed over one day.
