Both technical and artistic, the Summer School Draping for beginners introduces you to the different techniques and tools allowing you to acquire the basics of 3D draping. You will discover how to make a toile pinned directly on the dummy and design a proper garment from it.


Beginners who wish to discover draping. This course is also a good preparation for studies in fashion design/pattern making.

  • Understand the garment as a whole
  • Learn to analyze a fashion drawing and the garment it represents
  • Acquire the basics of modelling on the stand: hang, proportions, volumes
  • Be able to drape a 1/2 toile of a simple style


  • Fashion drawing, understanding and interpretation
  • The profession of designer / pattern maker
  • Specificities of pattern cutting by 3D draping
  • Basic draping notions necessary: grainline, hang, bias, balance, volume, excess value
  • Tools used
  • Research of shapes, volumes, details

Study of different styles by pinning the cotton muslin on the dummy:

  • Straight skirt, shaped skirt, panel skirt, circle skirt, pleated skirt
  • Basic bodice, bodice with ease
  • Set in sleeve, raglan sleeve
  • Collars: stand-up, shirt-neck, Peter Pan

Advanced draping

If you wish to go further, you can continue with the Advanced Draping program which will allow you to experiment more volumes, make more complex canvases and gain confidence.


At the end of the program, a certificate is issued to participants who have attended all courses.

To register, simply fill out the online form. Your application will be reviewed by the Summer School team. Final enrolment is only effective after payment of the deposit.
